This year’s floods is a new experience for the officials. There is no water in the Godavari upperstream of Kaleswaram. Sriramsagar, which is upstream of the Yella-mpally reservoir, has about 7 tmc ft against its capacity of 20.17 tmc. All the water in the Godavari that is coming to Bhadrachalam is from the Pranahita.

The flood in the Pranahita increased on Monday and about 6.6 lakh cusecs of water was flowing at the Medigadda barrage. Officials opened four gates of the Palemvagu project in Venkatapuram under Mulugu district and released 3000 cusecs to the Godavari.

The project is receiving 11,500 cusecs of inflow. People and fishermen were asked not enter the river due to the speed of water flow.

The officials prepared a list on the habitations expected to be flood hit and decided to send essential commodities.
