BENGALURU: Former minister and senior Congress leader D.K. Shivakumar, who is on bail in a money-laundering case, is referred to as 'Kanakapura Bande' by his admirers for his reputation of being gutsy. Now, a full-length Kannada feature film, titled Kanakapura Bande, is in the offing.

But makers denied that the movie has anything to do with Mr Shivarakumar, but said that it will be a political thriller set against the backdrop of mining activities.

The director, N. Nagesh, said that the posters will be released soon before the movie goes on the floors.

“The title was registered by Mathosri Kala Tanda with the film chambers. It had also approached the Department of Information and Publicity, which recently gave us the permission to shoot the movie across the state, but with certain conditions," Mr Nagesh said.

After Nikhil Yellidyappa, Jodettu and a few other popular phrases that went viral across the globe during the Mandya Lok Sabha election, “Kanakapura Bande” became popular when the senior Congress leader was kept in jail for 50 days.

The film is being produced by Amruthesh N.P. under Mathosri Kala Tanda.

Mr Nagesh revealed that he has penned the story tracing the state politics from 1983 to the present day.

Asked whether the film has any connection to the personal life or political career of Mr Shivakumar, the director refused to comment, but said it is definitely going to be a political drama revolving around mining activities and more.

The maker wrapped up saying that they are finalising the cast and crew for the movie.
