Suryapet municipality gets Survekshan all-India rank

Suryapet municipality in Telangana state has bagged an all-India rank in Swachh Survekshan-2017.

Hyderabad: Suryapet municipality in Telangana state has bagged an all-India rank in ‘Swachh Survekshan-2017’, the sanitation survey taken up by the Centre. The survey was completed in February.

The Union urban development department has sent a letter to the TS municipal department director T.K. Sreedevi.  Ms Sreedevi said the award would be presented on May 4 at Delhi.

The Swachh Survekshan is a national ranking of 500 cities on urban sanitation conducted by the Union ministry of urban development.

The Quality Council of India, an autonomous government body, has been mandated by MoUD to conduct the survey. Citizen feedback is a critical indicator in the Swachh Survekhan rankings.

According to the Swachh Surekshan website, over Rs 7.5 lakh locals had responded to the survey and 12,200 locations assessed. More than 420 assessors conducted the survey and 2,600 public and community toilets

The first survey carried out last year covered 73 cities. Hyderabad was ranked 50th rank out of the 73 cities across the country. In AP Visakhapatnam was ranked 44 and Vijayawada 46.
