Kevin murder case: ASI, driver took bribe from Shanu chacko

It was revealed during questioning the accused that the ASI and the police driver helped Shanu and his father Chacko.

Kottayam: In a new development in the Kevin murder case, Kochi range IG Vijay Sakare on Thursday confirmed that the ASI of the Gadhinagar police station Biju and the driver of the police vehicle Ajay Kumar received bribe from the accused Shanu Chacko  who was travelling in a Wagon R car at Gandhinagar from where Kevin Joseph was kidnapped.    Mr Sakare said that the police registered the case with the charge that the two policemen including ASI Biju and driver of the police vehicle received a bribe of Rs 2,000 from the accused including Shanu Chacko and his father Chacko while on night patrolling. 

According to the police it was revealed during  questioning the accused in the case that the ASI and the police driver helped Shanu and Chacko.  The accused gave the bribe to the patrolling team when the car was found in suspicious circumstances at Gandhinagar. According to the sources in the police, the accused kidnapped Kevin and Anish after this incident. 

 The Inspector-General said that ASI Biju rang up Chacko and asked him to leave Kevin. However, no further action including the registering of case was taken by the police. As of now 9 among the 14 accused in the case were arrested by the police.The three including Shanu, Chacko and Manu were presented at the Ettumanur JFMC on Thursday. The court remanded them to police custody till Monday.
