Truck crashes into Metro pier on Mysore Road, traffic hit
Because of the accident, some cement debris fell on the road and caused a traffic jam.
Bengaluru: Around 10.15 pm on Saturday, a truck coming from Kengeri towards Mysore Road hit the under-construction Metro pier, causing a traffic jam on the busy road. The accident occurred on Reach 2 extension of Phase-1 near Pantharapalya on Nayandahalli Main Road, close to the existing Metro station.
"Because of the accident, some cement debris fell on the road and caused a traffic jam. Later, the debris was removed and the road was cleared for traffic. There were no casualties or injuries to the people," said Namma Metro CPRO Vasanth Rao.
He said that contradictory to some media reports, the metro bridge did not collapse. "Metro surveillance and security staff reached the spot immediately to find out about the accident. The team collected information from the Byatarayanapura police station," Rao said.
An eyewitness, Radhakrishna, who owns a small store near the accident spot, told Deccan Chronicle, "I was about to close my shop when I heard a loud thud and thought it was a bomb explosion. Then I saw that it was a goods truck crashing into an under-construction horizontal structure holding two pillars together. The structure might have too low causing the crash."
He said, "There was no traffic movement at that time. As there were no Metro construction workers also at that time, there were no injuries to anyone. There was a massive crowd however, because of the noise. The crane came and cleared the debris, and at that time traffic movement was blocked."
