Young Dancer Found Dead In Puri Hotel Swimming Pool

Bhubaneswar : The body of a young woman was recovered from the swimming pool of a hotel on Chakratirtha Road in Odisha's Puri town, prompting allegations of murder from her family even as police await post-mortem findings to determine the cause of death.

According to police and local sources, the woman had checked into the hotel along with another young woman after they were hired to perform as dancers at a bachelor party hosted there.

The woman's body was discovered in the hotel's swimming pool on Monday. Police recovered the body and registered an Unnatural Death (UD) case before sending it to the District Headquarters Hospital in Puri for post-mortem examination, scheduled for Tuesday.

Investigators are examining CCTV footage from the hotel and questioning those present at the party to reconstruct the sequence of events. Police are trying to ascertain whether the woman accidentally drowned or was pushed into the pool.

The deceased's family has alleged that she was murdered, claiming she was deliberately pushed into the swimming pool.

Police, however, said it would be premature to draw any conclusions, adding that the exact cause and circumstances of the death would be established on the basis of the post-mortem report, CCTV footage and other evidence collected during the investigation.

The police had not revealed the identity of the deceased till this report was filed. Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding her death after her body was recovered from a hotel swimming pool in Puri.
