Thane: The Navi Mumbai police have invoked the anti-organised crime law MCOCA against a gang involved in commercial supply and distribution of mephedrone and detained a female peddler as part of a drive against drugs, officials have said.According to a press release, police detained Sitabai Santosh Ingle (35) under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, commonly known as the PIT-NDPS Act, to prevent her continued involvement in selling contraband.

In a related action, police invoked MCOCA (Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act) against a gang supplying mephedrone across Navi Mumbai, Mumbai and Nashik, it said.

The gang, headed by one Imran Hussain Khan (36), was exposed after police seized 344 grams of mephedrone valued at nearly Rs 86 lakh from a resident of Ulwe in Navi Mumbai in May, it said.

Khan was previously involved in serious crimes, including attempt to murder and assault, it added.
