Chennai: On Friday, Kancheepuram police remanded three youth, including a plus-1 student for allegedly gangraping a class 9 student after taking her to a motor pump room in a field near Chengalpet on Tuesday night.

Police said that the three suspects are Vimal Kumar, believed to be the girl’s boyfriend, Azhagesan, 21, working as a painter, and a 17-year-old plus-2 student. All were remanded to judicial custody after the police slapped rape and kidnap charges on them.

The 17-year-old has been sent to a juvenile home while the girl was sent to a government shelter home after medical examination. Daughter of an auto rickshaw driver and a housemaid, the girl decided on Tuesday, not to go home because she had quarrelled with her parents. She instead sought her boyfriend’s help.
