Hyderabad: A 38-year-old doctor, working in the pathology department of a reputed hospital in the city, was duped by a cyber fraudster through the OLX platform. The fraudster approached him in the guise of a buyer interested to buy an electric recliner, which the doctor posted on the platform. The victim was cheated by the fraudster to the tune of Rs 2.58 lakh, the police said.

A month ago, the doctor posted an advertisement on OLX to sell his electric recliner for Rs 28,000. He received a query from a person identified as Jitendra Sharma, an owner of a furniture shop in Kukatpally and expressing interest to buy the recliner chair.

Jitender Sharma told the doctor to scan a QR code. Hoping that he would receive the money, the doctor scanned the QR code only to find that Rs 2.58 lakh was debited from his account. The doctor, after realising that he was deceived, approached the Cyberabad cybercrime police, who registered a case and started an investigation.
