C’garh/ Rs 7 Crore- Dam Project to Make C’garh Village Free of Kidney Ailment

Raipur: Supebeda village in Chhattisgarh’s Gariyaband district, which reported large number of kidney disease cases, may finally get a permanent solution to the problem with chief minister Vishnu Deo Sai sanctioning a project to build a dam on the Tel river to supply safe drinking water to the habitation.

Mr. Sai while reviewing implementation of government programmes in the districts of Gariyaband, Raipur, Mahasamund and Baloda Bazar at the Gariyaband district panchayat office announced that a dam will be built on the Tel river at a cost of Rs seven crore to supply safe drinking water to Supebeda to solve the drinking water problem in the village permanently.

The village hogs lime light in the media every now and then for reporting a growing number of cases of kidney ailment among the local people.

Specialists from Chhattisgarh as well as the Centre have visited the village in the past to examine the patients suffering from various kidney ailments and arrange their treatments.

Besides, the teams also examined the ground water in the village, which was found to be contaminated by presence of minerals and chemicals such as fluoride, officials said.

The state government at a high-level meeting held a few months ago had sanctioned a dialysis facility in the district hospital in Gariyaband and free treatment for the kidney patients of the village in the hospital.

The dam project will ensure provision of piped safe drinking water to the village to free the village of kidney ailments, officials said on Sunday.
