RAIPUR: Twenty-three suspected Bangladeshi infiltrators, found without valid documents in Chhattisgarh’s Bilaspur district, have been sent to a detention centre here by the police.
The suspected immigrants from Bangladesh were caught without valid documents in the Sirigitti area of Bilaspur district during a drive launched by the police to identify the foreign infiltrators.
A special task force (STF) has been constituted by Bilaspur senior superintendent of police (SSP) Rajneesh Singh to verify identities of suspected persons living in the district following a recent direction to the effect by the Chhattisgarh government.
Scrutiny of the documents provided by these 23 persons mentioned the addresses in the Murshidabad and Jangipur districts of West Bengal.
According to the police, a special team from Bilaspur was sent to West Bengal to authenticate the addresses and it was found that either the addresses are incorrect or non-existent.
Mr. Singh has confirmed the development.
These 23 people were sent to Raipur detention center for detailed verification of their citizenship status and origins, police said.
