Kolkata: West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee's nephew Abhishek Banerjee blamed BJP for the denial of permission to his helicopter to fly him for a rally in Birbhum on Tuesday. The Diamond Harbour Trinamul Congress MP also slammed the BJP for a SIR hearing notice to Nobel laureate Amartya Sen.

He said, “I want to apologise for being late. The election has officially yet not commenced. But through SIR, BJP has started their tricks. My chopper was not given clearance. BJP thinks these tricks will stop me but I am 10 times more stubborn than BJP.”

Mr Banerjee added, “Since my chopper didn’t receive clearance- I spoke to Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren and arranged his chopper to come for this meeting. I had decided that come what may, I will be reaching the venue as a Trinamool soldier to address even 10 people if they would be present at the venue.”

On the EC notice to Dr Sen, the young TMC leader argued, “In the name of SIR, BJP-ECI nexus is targeting people of Bengal. When I came here, I got to know that Nobel Laureate Amartya Sen, who brought global recognition for our country, has been served hearing notice. Actor Dev and World-cup winner pacer Md Shami have also been served hearing notices by ECI.”
