MLA Bibhas Sardar— DC File

KOLKATA: Baruipur East MLA Bibhas Sardar, Belonging To Mamata All India Trinamool Congress, was injured after he was assaulted allegedly by a group of BJP workers twice within a distance of two kms in South 24 Parganas of West Bengal on Saturday evening.

While his left eye was wounded, his car was also vandalized in the two rounds of attacks. Mr Sardar was returning home from a party office. The first attack took place at Mansatala where some ruling party workers stopped his car and asked him to get down immediately.

As the MLA wanted to know about them, the attackers warned him for still remaining loyal to his party chief and former chief minister Mamata Banerjee and threatened him with dire consequences. They later pelted stones on his car.

Mr Sardar somehow managed to escape as his driver restarted the car and swiftly dodged past them. They however came under another round of attack after reaching Gouriberia. A group of BJP workers verbally abused him and dragged him out.

Then they hurled bricks on him and beat him with sticks. His personal security personnel and car driver, who tried to save him, were not spared also. Rushing to the spot, cops from Dhosa outpost rescued them and took them to Joynagar police station.

Mr Sardar lodged a complaint with the police, blaming the attacks on BJP. The three injured also received treatment at Baruipur Sub Division Hospital.
