There’s a reason why December is called the month of joy. It’s full of festivities, gifts, cake and all things nice! But for Hyderabadis, there’s something more in store in between Christmas and New Year’s and that’s the annual Anglo-Indian Christmas Ball!

The ultimate ball that happens every year at Tivoli Gardens on the 26th night starts at around 8 pm and goes on till 5.30 am, with lots of dancing and fun competitions thrown in. It’s a day to socialise, spread the cheer of Christmas and start the new year in a vibrant manner. One thing that people really look forward to at the ball is, of course, dressing for the occasion. The dress code for the night is suits for men and gowns or dresses for women, and those attending the ball this year are all excited to look their best.

For Brooke Fernandez, this is one of the most special events that she looks forward to every year. She says, “Our family is almost always the first to buy tickets for the ball and we usually win the best-dressed award! I’m wearing a royal blue short dress with lace around my neck this time. This year, there’s a lot to look forward to. Some of us can win tickets to Goa and there’s also a jive competition.”

“It’s a wonderful night where family and friends get together. As a youngster, I’d like to wear a short dress instead of a gown. I am definitely excited to do my make-up and look the prettiest! I’m wearing a nice red dress with a Chinese collar to celebrate the spirit of Christmas,”  says 19-year-old Samantha. Adrian is also excited. “The day is all about having great fun and every year is special and unique. I love attending the ball. I am planning to wear all-black this year. Black shirt, jet black suit and black shoes, like Men In Black,” says Adrian.
