Nandhu, the second short film by director Basil Njarukadan, has its focus on a grave issue – child abuse. The film is specifically about harassment faced by boys. “Not only girls, but boys also fall victims to sexual harassments in several cases,”says director Basil.

The film starts with a nuclear family going to visit their ancestral home during the vacation. Nandhu, the main character, is a speech impaired boy who is screaming for the attention of his parents. The boy even tries to grab the attention of his grandfather by putting salt in his tea. His father is busy with his friends and phone. The makers try to say that children need special care and attention of their parents. The rest of the film shows how the boy gets into trouble and cautions parents that they should have an eye on their children and their safety.

This short film is produced by Ben Wilson and written by Kiran R. Chitteth. “It deals with a social issue that is prevailing in our society, but is not much noticed,” says Kiran, writer.

“Life is like a movie, both are puzzles to be solved,” says Basil. “I have started a journey with my crew, during which we plan to create numerous puzzles to be solved by the audience in the future,” he adds. Basil started off his career two years back. There was a small gang from a small town the members of which were passionate about the magic called cinema. Basil was one of them. Then, they made their first short film, named Annam, which was about hunger, still a serious issue faced by our country.

“There are still many people in society who don’t have a proper meal a day,” says the director. That is why they decided to make their first project focusing on the issue. Annam is a three-minute short film. By making short films, they try to address various issues in society and call the attention of the audience towards them.
