This story of friends sticking together through adversity will melt your heart

People yesterday celebrated friendship day in their own ways, as messages and social media posts regarding the same flooded the internet. But there are some exemplary friendships which show that this beautiful relationship isn’t about just one day.

While few people truly adhere to the doctrine of standing with their friends come what may, an inspiring post on Humans of  Bombay told a story that shows what lengths some people can go to for keeping that promise.

Uploaded in two parts on Instagram, tells the tale of two friends who met in college as their life takes an unexpected turn when one of them stumbles down stairs in a pub during celebrations of her engagement.

She then goes on to narrate how her friend found her in a motionless state and found that she was bleeding profusely. She mentions that the friend rushed her to the hospital and never left her side, despite being hospital phobic herself.

She further wrote, "I went into surgery at 11 in the morning and thought that I would recover...it didn't even occur to me that I may not have sensation because my spinal injury was so bad...on the 2nd day I just broke down and started crying."

She mentioned that after two years she lost of hope that things would get better, and also asked her fiancé to move on, but her friend never gave up on her. The friend made all plans at places that were more wheelchair friendly and how easy it would be for her to commute.

The woman says she is still strong willed due to support from her friend and plays badminton, hoping to represent India at the Para Olympics. The duo has also started a salon together, as they work and travel together every day.

This inspiring tale of how a friend refused to give up and motivated the woman to take charge of her life, is perfectly summed up by her friend’s quote, which goes, "When your best friend goes through something like this, your life changes completely as well.
