A New York food distributor has recalled potato chip snacks sold in New Jersey and Utah after a consumer complaint led inspectors to discover pork cracklings from Colombia in the products.

A New York-based food distributor has recalled around 264 pounds of potato chip snacks from stores in New Jersey and Utah after discovering that the products contained pork cracklings imported from Colombia, a country not authorised to ship meat or poultry products to the United States.

El Eden Import Distributor Corp., based in Long Island City, New York, issued the recall after learning that the affected snacks were manufactured in Colombia and contained chicharrón, a fried pork product commonly known as pork cracklings. The products entered the United States on July 28, 2026, according to the US Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS).

The federal agency said it began investigating the products after receiving a consumer complaint about "De Todito" branded snacks that combined dried plantains, potato chips and chicharrónes sourced from Colombia. The complaint prompted inspectors to examine the products and identify the shipment that is now subject to the recall.

Two products are included in the recall. The first is a 45-gram foil pouch labelled "De Todito NATURAL", containing Chicharrón Americano Jacks, Margarita and Natu Chips varieties. The second is a 45-gram foil pouch labelled "De Todito BBQ", containing Chicharrón Americano Jacks along with Margarita and NatuChips flavours.

FSIS said neither product carries a label indicating that the contents were imported, which was also identified during the investigation.

The recall was announced by FSIS on September 9, 2026. The agency advised consumers not to eat the affected products and urged retailers and distributors to check their inventories and remove any recalled items from sale.

The recall is related to the products' ineligible meat imports, as Colombia is not authorised to export meat or poultry products to the United States. FSIS did not report any illnesses linked to the recalled snacks.
