From Biryanis to Dosas: How Hyderabad Swiggy’d Its Way Through 2025

Hyderabad: Hyderabad reaffirmed its status as India’s undisputed Biryani Capital in 2025, with food ordering patterns that reflected a deep love for regional staples, indulgent comfort food, and growing convenience-driven habits. Data from Swiggy’s annual report, How India Swiggy’d 2025, shows the city balancing tradition with modern eating trends, from breakfast dosas to late-night biryanis delivered in minutes.
Hyderabadis ordered a staggering 175 lakh biryanis in 2025, accounting for over 18 percent of all biryani orders across India. Chicken Biryani dominated the charts with 108 lakh orders, making it the city’s most loved dish. Breakfast choices stayed rooted in familiarity, with Veg Dosa recording 39.9 lakh orders annually and emerging as the most preferred morning meal, followed closely by Idli.
Dessert preferences leaned towards classic comfort, with Boondi Ladoo emerging as the city’s favourite sweet. Chocolate Cake and Gulab Jamun followed closely, reflecting a strong preference for traditional and indulgent desserts. Evening snack hours between 3 pm and 7 pm saw Chicken Burgers leading the demand, followed by Chicken Fry, Shawarma, Veg Pizza and Veg Puff, highlighting Hyderabad’s blend of global and local tastes.
Late-night food cravings continued well into the early hours, with Chicken Biryani leading orders between midnight and 2 am. Chicken Burger and Chicken Shawarma followed, reinforcing the city’s reputation for indulgent night-time dining.
Regional cuisines from Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu recorded over 20 percent year-on-year growth, while Gujarati and Bengali cuisines also saw rising interest, growing by over 14 percent during the year. Convenience-driven ordering gained momentum, with Hyderabad recording the second-highest number of group orders and incognito orders in the country. Even in incognito mode, Chicken Biryani remained the top choice.
Office lunch trends reflected both indulgence and practicality. On Swiggy’s DeskEats platform, biryanis continued to dominate corporate orders, alongside Masala Dosa, which clocked over 5.7 lakh orders. One standout office order included 42 plates of biryani along with multiple seafood and chicken dishes, underlining the city’s appetite for large group meals.
Health-conscious eating also made its presence felt. Hyderabad placed 22.13 lakh high-protein orders in 2025, ranking third nationally.
Quick delivery through Swiggy Bolt saw Hyderabad place the second-highest number of Bolt orders in India. Chicken Biryani led Bolt orders, followed by Idli and Veg Dosa. While Choco Lava Cake topped dessert orders on Bolt, traditional sweets such as Double Ka Meetha and Motichoor Ladoo also featured prominently. The fastest Bolt delivery in the city clocked in at just three minutes for a Chicken Stuffed Garlic Bread order. The largest Bolt order was a party-sized request for 135 brownies.
Dining out remained a strong social activity in the city. Hyderabad diners saved Rs 114.8 crore through Swiggy Dineout in 2025, the third-highest savings nationally, marking a 73.4 percent year-on-year growth. Premium dining surged with a 110 percent increase, while festivals and celebrations drove significant bookings. The city ranked among the top five for late-night dining transactions between midnight and 3 am.
During the Great Indian Restaurant Festival 2025, Hyderabad diners saved Rs 47.72 crore. Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day and Father’s Day saw strong participation, with high-value single bills recorded across occasions, including the highest Father’s Day bill in India.
Commenting on the trends, Sidharth Bhakoo, Chief Business Officer, Food Marketplace at Swiggy, said food continued to play a central role in daily life and celebrations through 2025. He noted that Hyderabad showcased a balance between classic favourites and evolving food habits, from late-night indulgences to premium dining experiences.
Nationally, biryani continued its decade-long reign as India’s most ordered dish, with 93 million orders placed in 2025. Burgers, pizzas and dosas followed closely, while global cuisines such as Mexican, Tibetan and Korean gained popularity. Hyperlocal cuisines also saw sharp growth, reinforcing the country’s appetite for regional authenticity.
As 2025 wrapped up, Hyderabad stood out as a city that ordered boldly, celebrated often, and stayed loyal to its food roots — one biryani at a time.
