Hyderabad-based artist Kishan Kappari will soon be sharing artistic space and ideas at the 41st edition of Artexpo New York from April 4-7, an annual fine arts event that showcases the works of 400 artists from all over the world. Apart from this, Kishan will also be displaying his works at the fifth edition of World Art Dubai 2019 art fair from April 3-6 at Dubai World Trade Centre.

Elaborating on his work and inspiration, the art instructor at Balabhavan, who worked with artistic great Thota Vaikuntam for ten years at the art college, says, “While I was working with Thota Vaikuntam, I got to learn so much about art and was truly inspired by his style of work. Even my current series which revolves around women dressed in traditional attire is straight from Telangana. I have been concentrating on the hair of women during festivals which are beautifully adorned with flowers and jewellery.”

Kishan got into the creative field after being appreciated by his school teachers for drawing impeccable biology diagrams. The attention and acknowledgement further inspired him to take up art full-time, although he completed his formal education from Mysore, Karnataka University.

Reminiscing about his first sale of artworks in 1995 and his journey so far, he says, “I still remember when my first painting was sold for Rs 5,800 and my first art exhibition at Iconart Gallery in 2007. From working on acrylic on paper, at present I am working on different mediums like handmade paper and wood blocks revolving around the spiritual and meditative strengths of Buddha’s teachings. By combining art with Buddha’s philosophy, I am trying to promote peace and tranquility.”

Kishan is currently focusing more on international shows where he can put forth Telangana’s art and culture while educating children about the benefits of art education.
