With the New Year underway and health goals taking centre stage, weight management often tops resolution lists.
As people reset their routines and look for sustainable ways to feel fitter and more energised, mindful eating and balanced nutrition take on renewed importance.
Reflecting this shift, a new YouGov survey conducted in association with the Almond Board of California reveals that Indian consumers are increasingly embracing healthier choices, from exercising regularly to choosing nutrient-dense foods that support everyday wellness.
Among these, California Almonds continue to feature prominently in morning routines and breakfast habits, with many associating them with improved satiety, better control over cravings, and sustained energy through the day.
The survey, conducted across 16 cities in India, also highlights a broader shift toward holistic, health-focused living. A vast majority (92%) show strong interest in health and nutrition, with 51% reporting adoption of an active lifestyle with daily exercise. Additionally,63% of respondents say they are trying to manage their weight -- often through consistent practices like daily workouts, drinking more water, and reducing sugar consumption.
This emphasis on mindful eating is reflected in almond consumption habits across India. Nearly 40% of respondents say they consume almonds daily, with about 30% eating them first thing in the morning and 22% including them with breakfast. Purchase frequency also remains strong as 43% purchase almonds monthly, while another 44% do so weekly or bi-weekly. Preferences vary, with 30% opting for soaked or soaked-and-peeled almonds and 25% consuming them raw. Among dry-fruit consumers, a remarkable 86% choose almonds, reinforcing their widespread popularity.
The motivations behind almond consumption reflect a strong awareness of their nutritional benefits. More than half of respondents (52%) associate almonds with overall health and wellness, while 41% link them to immunity, and 39% consume them to maintain protein intake. A significant 75% say almonds are part of their daily routine for essential nutrients, while 84% agree they are a healthy option. Nearly 40% even track calories or macros when consuming almonds, reflecting heightened nutrition awareness.
This positive perception is grounded in almonds’ natural nutrient density. California Almonds offer 15 essential nutrients, including healthy fats, dietary fibre, protein, magnesium, potassium, and zinc, making them a minimally processed, wholesome addition to daily diets.
Weight management emerges as a key driver of almond consumption. 70% of respondents believe almonds support healthy weight goals, and 82% report improvement control over munching and weight after incorporating them regularly into their diets. Nearly half, 47% say they have replaced unhealthy snacks with almonds due to their higher fibre, protein content, and ease of availability. While 66% agree that other nuts also support weight management, almonds remain preferred choice because of their superior fibre content and nutrient richness. This trust translates into strong advocacy, with 85% of respondents recommending almonds to others. Nearly 64% also believe almonds are suitable for all age groups, making them a versatile family choice.
Expert perspectives further reinforce consumer behaviour. Sheela Krishnaswamy, Nutrition and Wellness Consultant, said: “More people are seeking practical, trustworthy guidance they can realistically follow. There’s a clear shift towards relying on nutritionists, dietitians, and credible experts rather than quick fixes. In these conversations, almonds come up naturally because they are familiar, easy to include, and nutritious. nutritionally robust. With 15 essential nutrients, almonds support satiety and mindful snacking, which is exactly what people looking to manage weight and build healthier routines are aiming for. Whether eaten soaked or raw, and morning or evening or as part of meals, almonds fit seamlessly into every day, balanced diets.”
Ritika Samaddar, Regional Head – Dietetics, Max Healthcare, added: “At the start of the year, I see many of my friends and clients setting clear health and weight-management resolutions. One of the most common challenges they face is managing hunger and staying consistent with healthier choices. Almonds fit naturally into these routines as they are filling, easy to include, and nutritionally balanced. Their fibre, protein, and healthy fats help control cravings and support sustained energy, making them a practical food for everyday weight management and active lifestyles.”
Cultural habits also play a key role in almonds’ popularity. Over half of respondents report regular use of almonds in traditional dishes across North, Central, and Western India, while consumers in the East are more likely to include them more during festivals and special occasions. Trusted sources of information such as word of mouth, nutritionists, and fitness influencers strongly shape consumer perceptions. Those aged 35 and above are particularly proactive in seeking nutritional guidance, with 44% saying they pay close attention to health claims and ingredient transparency when purchasing almonds. This behaviour is most pronounced among consumers aged 45 and above and among those in South India.
As Indians begin their New Year health journeys with weight management, fitness, and mindful eating in focus, the survey underscores how almonds have become an integral part of these goals. Their natural nutrient density, ability to support satiety, and role in weight control make them a powerful addition to everyday routines. Whether eaten first thing in the morning or as part of breakfast, California Almonds are helping people stay committed to their resolutions making healthier choices simpler, sustainable, and deeply rooted in daily life.
