Prime Minister Narendra Modi has instructed the armed forces to respond more forcefully to every Pakistani action, asserting a "new normal" in India’s approach to cross-border terrorism, government sources said on Sunday. Following Operation Sindoor, Modi told the military, “Wahan se goli chalegi, toh yahan se gola chalega” (If they fire bullets, we’ll respond with artillery). While India and Pakistan have agreed to a US-brokered ceasefire, sources said the operation is not concluded and India's strategy remains unchanged — terror will invite escalated costs. They clarified that India will not accept mediation on Kashmir, and the only issue to discuss is Pakistan vacating illegally occupied territories. Talks, if any, will only occur at the DGMO level. The Indus Waters Treaty will remain suspended until Pakistan stops sponsoring terrorism. After the May 7 retaliatory strikes, India made it clear to foreign interlocutors that it would continue targeting terror infrastructure in Pakistani territory, with every hostile move by Islamabad met with firmer military response.
