Actor Sundeep Kishan in reinvention mode
Can actors reinvent themselves when the going gets tough? Yes! Sundeep Kishan has done it.
Young actor Sundeep Kishan is on reinvention mode after his last film, Manasuku Nachindi failed to create waves in cinemas. Fresh from a six-month break in which he probably thought long and hard about his career, the actor is now back in action with a slice of life film Next Enti, starring Tamannah and Sarath Babu, which releases on December 7.
“It is a film that shows lots of stuff that happens in modern-day relationships and the changing equation between men and women. For instance, most boys have their first drink when they go out with their fathers but I myself have lots of women friends who do the same with their fathers and this is reflected in my new movie,” said the actor who says he himself had his first beer with his father.
Sundeep, who plays the character of Sanju, an investment banker who watches sports and travelling in Next Enti, is excited about his return to films. Even though he does not watch sports in real life, he is close to Sanju in the manner in which he speaks and behaves. It was co-star Tamannah’s manager, Kunal, who approached him with the story and he instantly fell for the modern story with large doses of humour. “It’s not a typical film with a big entry for the hero, interval bang and a huge climax. Rather, it is a modern-day love story with interesting characters and their journeys. There are no comedians or actions scenes in it but there is lot of humour in it,” he said.
What also attracted Sundeep to the story is a modern, bold take on relationships. “There are lots of discussions on sex and relationships in the movie and I think it is the first in Telugu cinema in recent times that we have brought out the topic of sex and relationships openly on the screen,” Sundeep said.
Though the movie itself completed a few months ago the filmmakers took time with the post production. Now that it is finally releasing, he is hopeful it will do well and give him a great end of the year. The actor also used his break from films to act in Family Man, a web series directed by Raj and DK. The action thriller stars Manoj Bajpai and Gul Panag and he has already wrapped up his portions in the film, shot in Kashmir. Right now he is enjoying his turn as producer with a new film, Ninu Veedani Needanu Nenele.
“The industry is changing rapidly and I am fascinated at the way technology is evolving and being used to bring out fascinating new films,” said Sundeep whose new film is in the horror genre, with the story changing unexpectedly every ten minutes. “It’s a new concept script and highly entertaining, so I decided to do my own,” he said about turning producer.
