With the two rival panels campaigning rigorously, the Movie Artistes Association (MAA) election is currently the hot topic of the Telugu film industry.

On Monday, the Sivaji Raja panel got a big jolt when Paruchuri Venkateswara Rao, who filed his nomination for the post of Treasurer, was rejected by the scrutiny committee for already holding the post of President for the Chitrapuri Colony Housing Society.

“There is no rule that a person cannot hold two posts in different film bodies, but it seems they introduced this rule from this year onwards, so the committee rejected Paruchuri’s nomination,” says a source, adding that Rajiv Kanakala is the new nominee. “Sivaji Raja knew that Paruchuri’s nomination may get rejected, so he asked Rajiv Kanakala to file his nomination as a standby for the same post. Kanakala originally filed for an Executive Member’s post, but now he is contesting for the Treasurer’s post,” adds the source.

Meanwhile, the other panel, led by senior actor Naresh and the Rajasekhar couple met Mahesh Babu on Sunday as part of their campaign. All eyes are also trained on Chiranjeevi to see which panel gets his support. However, a source informs that he may stay neutral as he likes both the panels.
