Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay condoled the passing of veteran actress Sowcar Janaki on Friday. Sowcar Janaki, a respected name in South Indian cinema, died in a Chennai hospital due to age-related complications at the age of 94.

The Chief Minister said that he was filled with profound shock and sorrow upon learning the news of the passing of Mrs. Sowcar Janaki, the veteran film actress who, through her unique performances, had carved an indelible place in the hearts of audiences across generations.

He stated that her artistic contributions, spanning over 70 years in the film industry and breathing life into countless characters, will forever be cherished and celebrated. Having acted in films across various languages such as Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, Hindi, and more, she achieved remarkable feats and received numerous accolades, including the Padma Shri Award, Kalaimamani Award, Nandi Award, and others. The demise of Sowcar Janaki represents an irreplaceable loss to the film world, he said.

The Chief Minister conveyed his condolences to her family, relatives, members of the film fraternity, and fans, and prayed that her soul rests in peace at the divine feet of the Lord.
