Only Woman On Set: Radhika Apte’s Shocking Revelations About South Films

Actress Radhika Apte, known as the ‘poster girl for regional and arthouse cinema’ ,recently completed 20 years in the film industry. The actress who has acted in several regional films, including Marathi, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Bengali and Malayalam, shared several aspects of her time while working in South Indian films.
The actress revealed that due to financial circumstances, she had to do South Indian films at the beginning of her career. The Saali Mohabbat actress said that she faced many challenges while working in those film,s and some of the unpleasant memories stayed.
Radhika Apte has acted in Ram Gopal Varma’s bilingual film Rakta Charitra 1 and 2 ( 2010),in two Telugu films Legend (2014) and Lion ( 2015), with Nandamuri Balakrishna. She also acted in several Tamil films, including Kabali with Rajinikanth( 2016).
While she refused to take names, she said that during one film shoot in a small town, she was the only woman on the set. The men kept asking for more padding on her body, but she refused. “With no manager or agent, surrounded only by men, I suddenly realized how isolated I was, she said.
Radhika welcomed her first child, a daughter, with her musician-husband, Benedict Taylor, in December 2024. She has shared pictures on Instagram and talked about balancing her personal and work life as she continues to work in content-driven roles. Her latest films include Saali Mohabbat and Raat Akeli Hai: The Bansal Murders, currently streaming on OTT platforms, and an American biographical drama film Last Days.
