For Sanju Surendran, director of Aedan/ The Garden of desire, it is a proud moment. After winning two awards at the International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK), his movie has bagged four Kerala State Awards – the second best film (Murali Mattummal, Sanju Surendran), best cinematography (Manesh Madhavan), best sound mixing (Pramod Thomas) and best adapted screenplay (S. Hareesh, Sanju Surendran).  “I am so happy,” says Sanju over the phone.

“At IFFK, the movie had got two international awards and now the state award. We are thrilled.” Written by Hareesh, the movie follows the journey of Hari, a young and aspiring writer, who lives with his mother. “The entire movie is a blend of Hareesh’s three stories, which are thematically connected,” says Sanju.  At the IFFK, Aedan received Rajatha Chakoram for the best debut director and FIPRESCI Award for best film.
