Choreographer Dinesh is a happy man these days. Having choreographed for more than 800 songs in Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam, he is behind the success of most of Thalapathy Vijay's dance routines. Now, with his debut acting venture Oru Kuppai Kathai turning out to be a big hit, Dinesh says that Vijay watched the film and heaped laurels on his natural performance.

“Vijay sir watched the movie and appreciated the content as well as my action. I was on cloud nine and it was more than a national award,” quips Dinesh who won the national honour for Dhanush starrer Aadukalam.

Why the title, we ask. “It was my producer Aslam sir’s choice. Even my director who is his protégé Kaali Rangaswamy wanted to retain OKK. I was not for it as I felt it has a negative impact. But Aslam said, ‘only this is apt for the content and only such titles will have great reach’. He cited examples like Neerkumizhi, Thooral Ninnu Pochu and Udhiri Pookal, which were blockbusters (laughs).”

The former assistant of Prabhu Deva says that among those for whom he has choreographed Vijay and Simran are ‘choreographer’s delight’ dancers.

So, what next? Choreography or acting? “If I get good stories and if I feel I can pull it off, I would play the lead role. However, it is the dance master job which is close to my heart.”
