Malayalam cinema's iconic star Mohan Lal is reportedly seeking a significant pay hike following the massive box office success of his recent films like L2: Empuraan and Thudarum. According to a leading producer, the back-to-back blockbusters have collectively raked in over ₹350 crores and are still performing strongly in theatres.

“Mohan Lal has recognised his true market value,” says the producer. “He is now demanding a remuneration of ₹20 crores, along with the Gulf region’s overseas rights. Given the scale of his recent successes, he deserves it. These films have entered the top five highest-grossing Malayalam movies of all time.”

Unlike many stars in the Tamil or Telugu industries, Mohan Lal is known for his flexibility in remuneration. “He charges around ₹5 to ₹6 crores for mid-scale films like Drishyam. But for big-ticket action entertainers like Empuraan, which have pan-Indian and overseas appeal, his fee can go up to ₹15 crores or more,” the producer adds

Industry insiders believe this move could position Mohan Lal as the highest-paid actor in Malayalam cinema, outpacing contemporaries such as Mammootty, Dulquer Salmaan, and Unni Mukundan. “He’s set to reach new heights and redefine star power in Mollywood,” the source concludes.
