Alia Bhatt recently returned from a trip to Africa with her boyfriend Ranbir Kapoor, and brought back knowledge of some Swahili words with her.

In a video shared by Alia on her YouTube channel, she and her guide Cosmos swap a few words in Swahili and Hindi. While she has a few mix-ups, Alia appears keen to learn.

“Karibu, means thank you,” she says and Cosmos corrects her, “it means welcome.”

“What about ‘thank you’?” asks Alia. “The word is asante,” Cosmos responds.

“Tamu sana means delicious,” says Alia, adding, “Lalasalama means goodnight and siku njema means good day,”

Having a bush breakfast comprising baked beans in a tart, eggs, bacon, muesli and a Kenyan mahamri (pastry), Alia seems at ease in the video. And yes, there was no Ranbir Kapoor on the menu in the video, just a few zebras and a cheetah.
