Akshay Kumar

Akshay Kumar should rename himself Holiday Kumar. No, this is not like in the south where  actors and directors name themselves after successful films, even though Akshay has an A.R. Murugadoss film called Holiday under his belt. But the fact is that Akshay searches for the right holidays to release his films.

In 2020, the first release to his name is Sooryavanshi which is not releasing on the date he had chosen. He had chosen Eid 2020, but then Rohit Shetty advanced the date so that the film do not clash with Salman Khan’s then Eid release Inshallah.

The date chosen by Salman and Rohit was March 27, which is a regular Friday and not a holiday, which means that the collections would not have been as good as it is during an extended weekend. Akshay clearly was not in a mood to be on the receiving end of this.

“So Akshay has now come up with his holiday idea and got the film advanced to the festival of Gudi Padwa on March 25 because it is a holiday all over Maharashtra. Well, do not consider Maharashtra as a small territory, in fact, 60 percent of the `273 crore collections of the film Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior which is based on a Maratha warrior is from Maharashtra itself. Akshay’s next release Laxmmi Bomb is on Eid opposite Salman’s Radhe: India’s Most Wanted Bhai and his third release for the year Prithviraj is a Diwali release. Hence, he has managed to seal all the three films with holiday releases,” says a trade source.
