When Sanya Malhotra made her debut in Aamir Khan’s Dangal, things changed for her overnight. Now, she’s preparing for the release of her second film, director Vishal Bhardwaj’s Pataakha, and the trailer of next venture  — Badhaai Ho with Ayushmann Khurrana — has just come out. The actress says that she’s happy with where her career is headed, and the fact that her struggles are a thing of the past.

“My dream of acting, which I’ve held dear since childhood, is finally being fulfilled, and I’m happy about that. At this point of time, I’m having loads of fun,” Sanya says. She reveals that there was a time when fruits were a luxury she could not indulge in.

“When I first came to Mumbai, my parents supported me a lot. But I wanted to be independent and I didn’t want to keep asking them for money. So I would try to manage with whatever little money I was making. I’ve always eaten simple food — so that was not a problem. Nor am I the kind of person who has midnight cravings. But I love fruits and dry fruits — and honestly, I couldn’t even afford apples. Dry fruits were out of the question,” she says.

And though those days are behind her, the actress says that she still receives a tonne of support from her family. “I remember, when dad would come to meet me in those days, he would bring me boxes of dry fruits and I would relish them. My dad supports me to this day; I wouldn’t have made it here without my parents’ support,” she says.
