There are many Bollywood A-listers who are falling prey to depression, and even openly speaking about their mental health journeys. Others have even been victims of their mental states, like Kushal Punjabi — who was Akshay Kumar’s co-star in Andaz — who recently committed suicide.
Recently during the promotions of his film Good Newwz, Akshay spoke about his former co-star and how hard depression can be on people. He shared: “I can talk about it and it is easy (to judge) because we do not know what they go through. But I would advise people to talk about their problems and try and overcome it. Some people are indeed lucky that they have been able to be brave enough to face the problem.”
Soon after, the Khiladi actor spoke to some filmmaker friends and asked them to come up with a script to tackle depression. “Akshay has been working on tackling many social taboos and problems in his career. It is not just about people in the film and entertainment industry who are facing depression, there are others too. Akshay now wants to make a film on depression as the country too is going through a depression due to various issues,” says a source in the know.
Meanwhile, Akki got lucky in 2019 with four back-to-back hits. He has films like Sooryavanshi, Laxmmi Bomb and Bachchan Pandey in the works this year.
