Telangana Assembly Passes Unanimous Resolutions: Demands Clearances for PRLIS, Halt to AP’s Polavaram Link Projects
Hyderabad: The Telangana Legislative Assembly on Saturday unanimously passed two key resolutions focusing on the state's water interests.
In the first resolution, the House highlighted the plight of the drought-prone Mahbubnagar district. Citing significant cost escalations due to delays over the past decade, the Assembly urged the Central Government to immediately grant all pending clearances for the Palamuru-Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Scheme (PRLIS) to utilize 90 TMC of water for irrigation and drinking needs.
In a second resolution aimed at protecting the state's river water rights, the Assembly demanded that the Centre deny permissions to the Andhra Pradesh government for the proposed Polavaram–Banakacherla and Polavaram–Nallamalasagar link projects. The House asserted that no diversion of Godavari waters should be permitted until all interstate water disputes are resolved.
