If there was one chink in the Creta's armor, it had to be the lack of an automatic transmission with the petrol engine. Well, it seems like Hyundai has finally plugged that gap as well. Priced at INR 13.48 lakh (ex-showroom, Mumbai), Hyundai dealerships are accepting bookings for the Creta petrol automatic.

The automatic transmission will be available in the SX+ variant only, which is the one below the top-spec SX (O) variant. It will come fairly loaded with features such as alloy wheels, reverse parking sensors, projector headlamps with LED daytime running lamps, and push button start.

The 1.6 -litre, petrol engine develops a healthy 123PS of power and 151Nm of torque. With rumors ripe of the BR-V petrol sporting a CVT, we think it's a brilliant move from Hyundai.  The only other petrol automatic compact SUV is the Ford EcoSport that is a full segment lower than the Creta. While the Duster gets an AMT withthe diesel engine, the petrol continues to remain a manual only. Other rivals such as the Mahindra Scorpio, the XUV500, and the Maruti Suzuki S-Cross do not have a petrol variant.

The Creta has been a runaway hit for Hyundai and has been consistently raking in high sales for the Korean auto giant. It also won the prestigious ICOTY (Indian Car of the Year) for 2016. While we get our hands on one, take a look at our detailed review of the Creta With the new variant in the line-up, we think the Creta is inching closer to its 'Perfect SUV' claim. What do you think?
