BENGALURU: Speaker of the Legislative Assembly, Kagodu Thimmappa, said on Saturday that he would require at least one week's time to forward motions seeking removal of the Lokayukta and the Upa Lokayukta to the Chief Justice of Karnataka High Court.

Mr Thimmappa, who held a meeting with Advocate General Madhusudhan Naik and other legal experts, told the media here that documents required to nail the Lokayukta and the Upa Lokayukta were not sufficient and strong.

“We have to be very careful before sending them to the Chief Justice for an investigation. Some more information has to be gathered,” he added.

He said he had not decided whether to send all documents submitted as evidence against Lokayukta Justice Y. Bhaskar Rao and Upa Lokayukta Justice Subhash Adi jointly or separately.

When asked whether information provided by ruling Congress leaders was enough to nail the Upa Lokayukta, he replied in the negative and said information was not enough to prove prima facie involvement of Justice Adi.

“As an advocate I verified all information but some more information is required,” he added.

Also admitting that no inquiry was held to prove misconduct of Justice Adi, the Speaker said “as I see, there is prima face evidence that Justice Adi had shown favoritism to protect somebody. We are searching for substantial material evidence in this regard,” adding that he did not want to do anything in a hurry and therefore would take a week’s time to send documents to the Chief Justice through the department of personnel and administrative reforms (DPAR).
