Even before completing the Arya-Anushka-Sonal starrer Inji Iduppazhagi (Size Zero in Telugu), director Prakash Kovelamudi was sure of its success. Ask him how and he says that audiences can relate well with the script. “I have handled a sensitive subject like this with utmost care and made sure that the script has been narrated in a lighthearted manner.

The movie speaks about the size-zero fanatics among the modern generation. It’s my wife Kanika’s script. Arya and Anushka will play a captivating couple in the movie,” he says. We speak to Kanika Dhillon, who wrote the whole script in Hindi and showed it to her husband Prakash. “He was quite impressed by it and suggested that we make a bilingual film. We managed to rope in an apt cast, which was most important,” she smiles.

Prakash adds, the film highlights the issues of an over-weight woman and also has a message about the importance of accepting a person as he or she is, without setting conditions. “To sum it up, beauty isn’t about size or shape. We have shown this from a woman’s point of view and I am sure everyone will love this triangular love story,” he says.

While Arya, who’s known to be a fitness freak will play the role of a fitness trainer, Prakash tells us it was Arya’s enthusiasm towards fitness that played an important role in scripting the film.

But why did the filmmakers choose Anushka and how did they convince her to play such a character onscreen? “She’s a wonderful actress who can portray any kind of role with ease, and loves doing challenging roles. In the film, she plays a woman who works in a Chinese takeaway restaurant and Arya plays an NRI-documentary filmmaker-cum-fitness enthusiast. When she doesn’t get a suitable groom, Arya tells her to lose weight and encourages her to exercise,” explains Prakash and heaps more praise on Anushka. “She managed to gain 20 kilos for this film and didn’t take on any other project. It took four months for her to gain extra pounds to suit her role. In fact, we asked her if we could use prosthetics but it was she who suggested not to, as that would look artificial and actually gained pounds instead. Not every heroine would do a film like this. I think she’s very bold,” Prakash concludes.
