THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: RSP secretary A. A. Azeez has cited bar bribe case among the reasons for the UDF’s poor show but labour minister Shibu Baby John says he is against such public pronouncements.

Hours before the High Court verdict came against finance minister K. M. Mani, the RSP came out against him. Azeez told a television channel that the bar bribe case had affected the UDF badly in the local body elections.

He said whatever Mani had claimed, there was a grudge against him in the people’s mind which was reflected in the poll.

“Mani should have taken appropriate decision as soon as the bribery allegation was raised. There was an opportunity for him to make a decent comeback if he had not made any mistake. We have been keeping quiet so far to respect the discipline in the UDF. Now on, there is no point in keeping quiet,” said Azeez.

Shibu Baby John, however, downplayed Azeez’ statement and said this is not the time for mudslinging in the public. Shibu added that both the RSP and UDF will discuss the issue in detail.
