SALEM: The CB-CID police probing into the sudden suicide of young police officer, R. Vishnupriya, grilled her close friend and Keezhakarai DSP, Maheswari for nearly 10 hours in Salem on Thursday.
A day after the suicide of Tiruchengode DSP Vishnupriya on September 18 at her official residence, her friend and Keezhakarai DSP came up with a startling allegation, blaming the police higher-ups for the officer’s suicide.
“Vishnupriya committed suicide only because of pressure and harassment from senior police officers,” she said. The Keezhakarai DSP opened up a pandora’s box, with a sensational poser, “Are we all collection agents for the senior officers?” She also said that she was not bothered if she lost her job too because of her startling disclosures.
Maheswari, who was summoned by the CB-CID for questioning on Thursday, came to the Salem office of the CB-CID around 11.45 am. She was questioned till late in the evening, even after 9 pm on Thursday.
The CB-CID sleuths also questioned the priest of Tirukoshtiyur, Vijayaraghavan, with whom Vishnupriya was said to have spoken on the mobile phone. Meanwhile, the Madurai-based advocate, Malaviya who was interrogated by the CB-CID police has reportedly refused to hand over his mobile to the sleuths.
Malaviya has said that he would move the Madras high court for a CBI probe into the suicide of Vishnupriya, as the CB-CID’s investigation was not satisfactory. Vishnupriya, who had probed the sensational cases of Dalit youth Gokul Raj’s murder, was found hanging in the bedroom of her official residence on September 18.
