Shivamogga: DC orders probe into youth’s death
A youngster was killed by forest officials for allegedly transporting timber along with four others
SHIVAMOGGA: Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate V.P. Ikkeri on Friday ordered a magisterial probe into the killing of a youngster by forest officials for allegedly transporting timber along with four others in the Sirigere forest range in Shivamogga taluk on September 8.
Mr Ikkeri has appointed Assistant Commissioner and sub-divisional magistrate H.K. Krishnamurthy as the investigating officer and directed him to submit the report within 15 days. The forest authorities have submitted a report to the Deputy Commissioner mentioning that the youth, Ravi Naik (26) of Taralaghatta in Shikaripur taluk, was killed when the forest officials opened fire against the suspected smugglers.
The officials said that when the suspected smugglers tried to attack them, they fired in the air, but they still continued to assault which prompted them to shoot at one the suspected smugglers. Ravi succumbed to the wounds at the Ayanur primary health centre.
The deputy commissioner is sending a detailed inquiry to the government and has ordered the probe.
