Visakhapatnam: Despite a surge in the number of applicants and early commencement of counselling, engineering colleges in AP will see 34,000 seats go vacant this year too. Cancelling the affiliation of some colleges and the drop-off of 6,000 engineering seats in the state did not improved the situation. Several seats in B and C grade colleges remained vacant.

Dr K. Raghunath, Eamcet chief camp officer, said 34,000 engineering seats in the state were vacant till August 4, which was the last date for the candidates to report for the final phase of counselling.

Of the 1.4 lakh students who appeared for Eamcet for engineering, 1.3 lakh got eligibility for admission into the 1.29 lakh seats in the state. But 34,000 seats were vacant at the end of the final phase of counselling.
