Royapuram youth jumps to death over dad’s second marriage

Victim, a native of Thiruvidamaruthur in Thanjavur district was employed as a cleaner

ChennaiAllegedly depressed over his father marrying another woman, a 20-year-old youth working as a cleaner in a tanker lorry jumped off an overhead tank in Royapuram here during the early hours of  Saturday. 
 
The victim, J. Rajesh, a native of Thiruvidamaruthur in Thanjavur district was employed as a cleaner in a tanker lorry for the past few months and was living at a rented accommodation in Royapuram.
 
On Saturday, around 1 am, he was at the overhead water tank in the Metro water refilling station on Cemetery road when he took the drastic step. 
 
“He fell from a height of 60 feet and first hit a water tanker parked under the tank before hitting the ground. Workers saw him atop the tank and started raising alarms, but he jumped before they could do anything about it,” said a police officer.
 
Investigations revealed that Rajesh appeared detached for the past few days and was upset over his father marrying another woman back in his native place. 
 
Royapuram police registered a case of unnatural death under section 174 of CrPC and moved his body to the Stanley Medical College Hospital for post- mortem.
