Hyderabad: Twenty-two samples from different batches of Maggi have been collected in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana by food inspectors of the Institute of Preventive Medicine. The test results are awaited.

A senior officer said, “Due to the huge hue and cry raised in the country, people over here are also very worried. Hence samples were picked up and sent for testing.”

The samples were picked up a week ago, but, as there is paucity of food analysts, it is taking time to test the samples.

Meanwhile Balala Hakkula Sangham, a city-based child rights group, has demanded for a ban on Maggi. They are demanding that the results of each state be analysed and the government must come up with a decision against such practices by food manufacturers.

While a hue and cry is being raised over Maggi, the soft-drink industry has also come under scrutiny. The soft-drink market in India is the sixth largest globally.

Dr G. Krishna, senior physician said, “The rising awareness has made people voice their concerns and it is important that these products are checked by authorities frequently. The consumption of soft drinks has seen a significant rise, but people only come to us when they have become obese or are having acid reflux due to colas becoming a part of their diet.”
