VisakhapatnamProximity to the city has come up as a major criterion for identifying land to set up industries in the district. It may be noted that the revenue department is facing hurdles in identifying lands for various projects in the district. The government as well as investors insist for the authorities, especially Vizag district revenue officers, to allot lands situated in a close proximity to the city. Though various companies and institutions have approached the state government for allotting lands, the authorities concerned are unable to earmark sites as per the requirements
.

This being not enough, the officials also have to convince the public to part with their lands as well as keep protesting organisations at the bay.  Interestingly, of the 39,000 acres land identified in Vizag and Anakapalli by the authorities concerned, only 3,200 acres was considered feasible for requirement by the companies who needed the land.

Even the educational institutions and other firms are intereseted in land lying on the city outskirts, thus making it more difficult for the authorities.
Speaking on the issue, a senior revenue officer said all organisations are seeking land nearby the city. "We have identified around 39,000 acres of land in a 40 km radius of Vizag but the investors are reluctant to go for it and they have selected only around 3200 acres.," he added.

Sabbavaram, Achyut-hapuram, Parawada, Anakapalli, Madhurawada, Bheemili are some of the areas which have higher demand from the investors. “At present we don't have government lands to provide them.” “Therefore, we need to purchase or acquire them from farmers and it will lead to protests," the officer added.”
