Mahatma Gandhi University exam halls to be monitored

Thiruvananthapuram: Mahatma Gandhi University Vice-Chancellor Babu Sebastian has ordered all affiliating self- financing colleges to install closed circuit television (CCTV) systems with recording facility  in the examination halls latest by June 1.

This is part of the move to improve the quality of  higher education in terms of strict evaluation and conduct of examination, the” university said in a statement.

The order is in tune with the decision of the vice- chancellors’ conference convened by Governor Justice P. Sathasivam, who is also the chancellor of the university, recently. The syndicate had approved the proposal, the statement said.

The number of cameras to be installed would depend on the student intake and examination requirements of the colleges.

CCTV cameras designed by the public sector KELTRON will be installed.  The services of National Informatic Centre and C-DIT will also be used.  

Dedicated hard discs with  500 GB to one tera bite capacity will be used for storing the visuals. The principals can view the visuals simultaneously from all examinations halls and the visuals will be used to curb malpractices in the examinations.

The VC  also issued an order making all the 336 campuses under Mahatma Gandhi University tobacco-free from the coming academic year.
