Hyderabad: Telangana Congress leaders intend to take up with the Central government the complex issue of delimitation of constituencies in the event of bifurcation. The number of constituencies will drastically change in several districts after the division.

Thanks to heavy migration of people to Ranga Reddy district from all parts of the state, the neighbouring district of the capital city of Hyderabad will see a jump in the number of Assembly constituencies from 14 to 18 if delimitation is done as per procedure.

In Hyderabad revenue district, the number of seats will come down to 14 from 15. While one Assembly segment will have to be added to Telangana, an equal number will have to be cut from the residuary state of Andhra Pradesh.

Sources told this newspaper that Union minister S. Jaipal Reddy, who hails from Telangana, will discuss the matter with Union home minister Sushilkumar Shinde in order to prevent delaying polls on account of delimitation.

Reddy wants the Centre to come out with an alternative plan to ensure that elections are held in the two new states along with the Lok Sabha election later this year.

A section of T-Congress leaders were also of the view that the electoral gains the party hopes for after carving out Telangana state, will diminish if the polls are delayed.
