Lemongrass syrup is simple syrup made with pieces of lemongrass. It’s easy to make so you don’t have to worry about making a big batch at one time, unlike other homemade liqueurs. Once made, it is a refreshing component in a lot of cocktails lending them a distinctly Asian flavour.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 stalks of fresh lemongrass

Preparation

  • Remove the outer layer of lemongrass stalks and discard.
  • Cut the remaining lemongrass into pieces.
  • Mix equal parts water and sugar same as simple syrup in a pot. Add the chopped lemongrass.
  • Bring to a boil and then turn down the heat.
  • Simmer for 10-15 minutes.
  • Cool and pour in a jar with a lid.
  • Label with name and date and store in the fridge.
  • To help your lemongrass syrup last a little bit longer, add a spoonful of vodka once cool. Once it’s done after a week or two, put the syrup to good use in cocktails.
