Woman brutally attacked in Bengaluru ATM

Bengaluru: In a gruesome incident, a 38-year-old woman bank official was attacked with a lethal weapon by a man in an ATM kiosk in the heart of the city, leaving her in a pool of blood with severe head injuries n Tuesday.

As the woman entered the unguarded kiosk to withdraw money before proceeding to her office for the morning shift, the assailant, carrying a shoulder bag, closely followed her inside and pulled down the shutter before threatening and attacking her, police said.

Gripped by shock as she saw the intruder, the victim raised an alarm but was threatened not to do so by the assailant who then took out what looked like a pistol from his bag, as seen in the CCTV footage and later shoved her down and hit her repeatedly with a machete as she resisted.

After the gory attack, the footage showed, the attacker cleaning the machette of blood with the woman's napkin, taking away her phone and leaving the kiosk after pulling down the rolling shutter, police said.

The woman was lying in pool of blood for a long time and the incident came to light when two school children raised an alarm seeing blood coming out of the kiosk from under the shutters, police said.

She was taken to nearby government-run Victoria Hospital with injuries on head and face by a traffic policeman and later shifted to BGS Global Hospital where her condition is reported to be stable.

"She is out of danger," Bangalore Police Commissioner Raghavendra Auradkar told PTI.

He said police have formed squads to track down the assailant. "We are making all efforts to nab him."

The ATM, located very close to a police station, had no security guard. The woman, identified as Jyothi Uday, is working as Section Manager with the Corporation Bank. According to police, the assailant, in mid 30s, did not rob her of the jewellery she was wearing.

Police said they have recorded the statement of the victim after she regained consciousness. The woman told police that the attacker spoke in Kannada and asked her not to raise an alarm and threatened her to withdraw money from the ATM and hand it over to him.

Kanpur: Two persons were arrested today for allegedly making obscene MMS of a teenage mentally-ill girl and sexually exploiting her using the video.

The youths were arrested from Faithfulganj area following a complaint by the 16-year-old's father, police said today, adding that hunt is on to nab the other six accused.

The father alleged that few days back, the accused made the girl's video after feeding her with some sedative-laced food item, they said.

The accused also exploited her sexually, threatening that they would made the video public if she disclosed this to anyone, police said.

The matter came to light when the girl told about the matter to her elder sister.

She has been sent for medical examination, police said. They also said the girl was also receiving psychiatric treatment.

Kolkata: Around 24 kg gold estimated to be worth Rs 7.22 crore was recovered from the toilet of an aeroplane at the NSC Bose International Airport here.

Assistant Commissioner of Customs R.S. Meena said Monday night that the cleaning staff found two unclaimed bags in the toilet of the aircraft which had come from Bangkok and informed the police and bomb squad about the bags.

After opening the two bags, the police found 24 pieces of gold each weighing about 1 kg, Meena said, adding the gold was estimated to be around Rs 7.22 crore. The Assistant Commissioner Customs said in the last one month, customs authorities have five times seized gold brought illegally into the country.

UP: Girl raped while returning from laptop distribution programme

Amethi: An 18-year-old girl was allegedly raped in Sukulbazar area here by the driver of the vehicle in which she was returning home after attending a laptop distribution programme in neighbouring Faizabad, police said on Tuesday.

The incident took place yesterday night when the girl, a student of Ramchandra Smarak Inter College in Jamuari here, was returning home from Faizabad after receiving a laptop under the state government's programme, they said.

According to sources, the girl along with 50 other girls were send to Dhanpata Maurya Mahila Inter College at Rasulpur in Faizabad for the laptop distribution programme. The programme, scheduled to start at 2 PM got delayed and concluded around 10 PM, after which the girls were asked to return in an SUV arranged by the college.

After all other girls were dropped, the victim was allegedly raped by driver of the SUV and dumped alongside the road. She then somehow reached home and narrated the incident to her family members, who approached the police.

"On the basis of girl's complaint, the accused has been arrested and the victim has been sent for medical examination," Superintendent of Police Hiralal told PTI.

Bengaluru: A 16-year-old girl was allegedly gang raped at Kannamangala near Doddabelavangala in Doddaballapur taluk on the outskirts of the city on Sunday night.

The police have detained four youths and are questioning them. The victim is an SSLC student in a private school in Kanasawadi village. Her parents run a tea shop in Kannamangala.

The police said that locals had organised an orchestra in Kannamangala as part of Kannada Rajyotsava celebrations on Sunday evening. Sneha went to watch it around 7.30 pm.

As the programme came to end around 10 pm, there was a power cut. After that she was walking home alone when a group of 3-4 men, among whom she knew two, waylaid her and forced her to consume a soft drink after which she lost consciousness.

After some time, some villagers who noticed her lying in a bush took her home. She told her parents that she had been gangraped, and she was taken to Nelamangala Govern­ment Hospital.
Sneha’s uncle said that she had gone along with her 14-year-old brother to watch orchestra.

Hyderabad: Man rapes 9-year-old, locks victim in almirah

“She told us that there was a power cut around 9.30 pm and she went to an isolated place to attend to nature’s call. It was a deserted area and a few youths were consuming alcohol. When they saw the girl, they accosted her and forced her to drink a soft drink that was laced with alcohol. When she felt drowsy, the youths allegedly raped her.

"The girl managed to return to the place where the orchestra was being held after almost an hour. Her brother, who was waiting at the venue, took her home. When she started vomiting, her parents questioned her and she told them about the incident,” he said.

A complaint was filed with the police in the early morning hours. Based on her statement, the police detained four youths. SP of Bengaluru Rural district, V. Ramesh, said, “The doctors who examined her said that there were no rape-like abrasions, but the girl had sexual intercourse.

Based on her statement, we have picked up four men and are questioning them. Even they are being subjected to medical tests. We will get clear picture after we get the medical reports. We are also trying to gather circumstantial evidence,” he said.

Doddabelavangala police have registered a case in this connection and are investigating.

Kollam: The father of a 13-year-old girl   and his  friend, who sexually abused her, were arrested on Monday.

They were identified as Sethunath, 45, of Annapoornnamath, Chepramukku, Pooyappally, and his friend Rajesh of Kunnuvilaveettil, Pakalkkuri, Thiruvananthapuram.

Police said Sethunath was an acupuncture expert who also practised astrology.  The girl’s  mother had left them  when she was one-and-a-half-years old.

Sethunath used to abuse the girl after showing her porn books and videos. The girl said in her  statement that her father often gave her sedative tonics and threatened her that if she disclosed it to anyone,  he would know it through astrology. His friend  also abused her with his consent.

Hyderabad: A forest official was arrested by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) here today for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000 in Warangal district of Andhra Pradesh.

Deputy Range Officer C. Madhav Reddy, was caught red handed by ACB officials Monday evening, at the office of Forest Range Office in Bhulapalli North of Warangal, after he allegedly demanded and accepted an amount of Rs 10,000 as a bribe from a complainant, for doing him an official favour, an ACB release said here on Tuesday.

The bribe amount of Rs 10,000 was recovered from the accused, who has been arrested.

Visakhapatnam: Cops of the central crime station (CCS) nabbed four Muslims youths from Murshidabad district in West Bengal on Monday and seized fake Indian currency of Rs 1,20,500 in denominations of Rs 1,000 and Rs 500 and genuine currency worth Rs 32,500, besides some household articles like tooth pastes, soaps and others. However, Nazurul Islam, reported to be kingpin of the gang, is absconding.

Ansarul Shaik, 22, Jiyarul Shaik, 26, Ahakamal Islam, 23 and Mottakul Islam, 23, belonging to various places in Murshidabad district, West Bengal, formed a gang and plotted a plan to exchange counterfeit currency in and around Vizag by purchasing household articles with meagre amounts.

The gang members bought tooth pastes, shampoo bottles and other articles, costing between Rs 100 and Rs 150 each, giving the shopkeepers fake currency notes in the denomination of Rs1,000 or Rs 500. In return, the shopkeepers gave change which helped the gang procure genuine currency.

Additional DCP (crime) S. Varada Raju told reporters that the four arrested youths, under the guidance of Nazurul Islam, took to the crime. Each of the youths took Rs 45,000 counterfeit currency from Islam in Kolkata, reached Vizag on November 11 and stayed in Maruthi lodge.

The youths purchased household goods at Chavulamadum, Poorna market areas and secured Rs 32,500 original currency by exchanging fake currency of Rs 60,000.

On a tip off, the CCS team, led by inspectors P.V.V. Narasimha Rao, P.V.V.S.N. Krishna Rao, SI S. Ramesh, arrested Ansarul Shaik and Jiyarul Shaik. Basing on information from them, police took Ahakamal Islam and Mottakul Islam also into custody from the lodge.

Sources said youths from Malda and Murshidabad districts in West Bengal are procuring counterfeit currency, made in Pakistan, and reaching the state to circulate it.

Varada Raju said that a case has been registered at II Town police station in the city and sent officials of various departments to West Bengal for further investigation and to nab Nazurul Islam.

It is learnt that fake currency printed in Pakistan is being smuggled to West Bengal via Bangladesh. Police suggested that petty shopkeepers be cautious of strangers speaking in Hindi or Bengali.

Hassan: The alleged eloping of a girl with her boyfriend created panic and suspicions of kidnapping in Hassan police station limits on Monday.

21 year old Soumya, daughter of Puttaraju, a native of Nagarahalli, was believed to have been abducted from a college by Chetan, a 22 year old native of Bagdera Koplu.

The incident took place when Soumya, who is in her final year degree in Karnataka State Open University, had come to the city, to write her exams at a college on Monday morning.

The entire incident was captured by a CCTV camera at the ATM?booth of a private bank. According to Hassan Superintendent of Police Ravi T. Channananavar, though preliminary reports made it seem like a case of kidnapping was likely, further investigations suggested that it this was not a case of abduction as the girl was a major and the two were said to be in a relationship.

It is also alleged that Chetan who has a small business in Hassan, had approached Soumya’s parents with a marriage proposal six months ago, but her parents had reportedly refused him.

CCTV footage confirms that it was Chetan who was with Soumya and there have not been any signs of a kidnapping. Both seem to have eloped on a mutual consent. However Soumya’s parents have lodged a complaint of kidnapping at Hassan police station.

Bengaluru: Acting swiftly, the city’s South-East division police nabbed five small-time anti-social elements responsible for the brutal murder of a 42-year-old man, who opposed them for allegedly harassing and attacking his sister.

The accused have been identified as Shakeel N. alias Dingri (24) and Zafarulla Khan alias Lalu (32), residents of Old Madiwala, Nagaraju alias ‘Kharadapudi’ Naga (31), a native of Kanakapura, Shashikumar alias Shashi (23), and Kumar alias Bujji (21), all residents of Siddhartha Colony in Madiwala.

Based on a complaint filed by the deceased’s son, Prathap, the police arrested Dingri, Lalu and Nagaraj near RMC Yard in Kolar around 8 pm on Saturday, while Shashi and Bujji were arrested from Madiwala Market around 10.30 am the next day.

The suspects were produced before a magistrate on Sunday afternoon, who remanded the gang to judicial custody for the murder of R. Sundar, a bar bender.

Around 9.30 pm on Wednesday, November 13, a group of street theatre artistes approached the office of B.R. Ambedkar Sangha in Siddhartha Colony, asking for a connection to a power outlet. The artistes were planning to stage a show on creating social awareness.

Sundar reportedly told his sister R. Selvi, who had the keys to the office, to allow the artistes to use a power outlet. While the artistes were performing amidst a full crowd, the five suspects reportedly interrupted the play asking the artistes to sing for them so that they could dance.

Frustrated by the behaviour of the troublemakers, Selvi is said to have disconnected the power connection and sent away the performers.

Enraged that the artistes and Selvi did not comply with their demand, Lalu began throwing stones at Selvi, injuring her left hand.

When Sundar saw that the wound was bleeding, he confronted the troublemakers, the police said.

A heated argument followed and four suspects held on to Sundar, while Dingri stabbed the victim repeatedly on his chest, neck and jaw. As Sundar collapsed, they fled from the spot.

Sundar was rushed to a nearby private hospital, where he died around 3 am on Thursday.

The Madiwala police have registered a case of murder and attempt-to-murder against the five men, all of whom are also wanted in connection with several other cases at different police stations in the city.

Coimbatore: After biscuit robbers on trains, it’s now toffee thieves at theatres. A 42-year-old man, who was watching a 3D English movie at a theatre in city, was offered a toffee by another moviegoer and robbed of his two mobile phones and cash on Sunday evening.

The police have booked cases against the theatre owner and manager for negligence and failure to fix CCTV cameras.

Police said Shah Jahan, a resident of Karum­bukadai, was at the Carnatic theatre on Big Bazaar Street to watch  English film The Dark World on Sunday evening.

Half an hour after the movie began, a stranger sitting next him, offered him a toffee.

An unsuspecting Shah Jahan ate the intoxicant-laced toffee and lay dazed in his seat.

After the movie ended, the theatre staff who found him lying in the seat,  gave him first aid and took him to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Later, Shah Jahan realised that the toffee thief had robbed him of his two mobile phones and Rs 4,000.

As Shah Jahan was wearing the 3D glasses, he claimed he was unclear about the appearance of the toffee thief. Ukkadam police are investigating.

Coimbatore: Two ivory tusks, weighing 8kg,  were seized from a speeding car during a vehicle check in Uncha­velampatti in Polla­chi on Monday morning.

However the five-member gang, which smuggled the 2.5 ft ivory,  fled. Around 5.45 am on Monday, a police team which was checking vehicles at Unchave­lam­patti, stopped a speeding red Ford Ikon car with Tiruva­rur district registration.

When the police asked the car driver for documents the five passengers and the driver, abandoned the car and fled the scene. Police claimed that they were unable to secure them beca­use the five smugglers scampered in different directions. The police seized the car and fou­nd  two ivories in the trunk of the car.
