Congress man sought favour, claims Sushma Swaraj

Both Houses were adjourned for the day in quick time

New Delhi: Logjam persisted in Parliament on the second day of the Monsoon Session as the Congress-led Opposition stalled proceedings of both Houses. With the Congress insistent on the resignations of external affairs minister Sushma Swaraj and MP and Rajasthan CMs Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Vasundhara Raje over the “Lalitgate” and Vyapam scams respectively, both Houses were adjourned for the day in quick time.

Even before proceedings began in Parliament, Ms Swaraj, adopting a combative stance, tweeted that a top Congress leader was putting pressure on her to issue a diplomatic passport to someone who was an accused in the coal block allocation scam.

She added she would reveal the name on the floor of the House. On a day of attacks and counter-attacks, Ms Swaraj, however, had the sympathy of Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav who said, “You know what my party thinks about women. It is sau khoon maaf for women. (100 murders would be forgiven).” “Why are all of you hounding one woman?” he asked reporters.
