Farmers’ suicide to stump TRS in assembly

Opposition parties are claiming that over 350 farmers have committed suicide

Hyderabad: The TRS government is in a tough position over the issue of farmers’ suicides due to crop failure and mounting debts. Ahead of a scheduled debate on the issue in Assembly on Monday, it is found that the collectors sent contradictory reports regarding the number of farmers who committed suicide was. Earlier it had been 79. Later, it was reduced to 39.

On the other hand, the Opposition parties are claiming that over 350 farmers have committed suicide in the five-month rule of the TRS.It remains to be seen how many suicides the TRS government officially acknowledges in the Assembly on Monday.

“Over 350 deaths have been reported in the newspapers with photographs during the last five months. The government, which was in deep slumber for five months, has now suddenly woken up and asked officials to enquire into these incidents. The officials, without, visiting the affected families and conducting inquires, have submitted reports that only 39 farmers had committed suicide,” said Shabbir Ali, deputy leader of Congress in the Legislative Council.

Farmers’ suicides have to be confirmed based on GO 421, which was issued by the YSR government in 2004. The GO was in force in the united state. But after bifurcation, the TRS government has not issued any revised GO on this issue.
