Telangana CM K Chandrasekhar Rao seeks total control
CM asks home minister for charge of institutions in respective states
Hyderabad:Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao has requested the Centre to implement necessary changes to bring public institutions in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh states under the respective state jurisdiction on a ‘as is where is’ policy in order to avoid confrontation between the two states in administration.
On the second day of his trip to Delhi, the Chief Minister along with his MPs met Union home minister Rajnath Singh on Sunday and took up the matter. As per the the Andhra Pradesh ReOrganisation Act, Schedule 9 and 10 exclusively deal with the administration of various public institutions in both the states, and has empowered the Centre to bring such changes in consultation with both the states.
Mr Chandrasekhar Rao suggested to Mr Rajnath Singh that it would be easier for both the governments to adopt the ‘as is where is’ policy to avoid confrontation. He said that Telangana government is only concerned and committed to the interests of the state and not in interfering in the affairs of the AP government.
He cited the example of the agricultural university, with its headquarters in Hyderabad, and three agriculture colleges under its authority in AP. It would be easier if institutions functioning in and around Hyderabad be given to Telangana and institutions located in Andhra Pradesh be given to that state.
The Act provides that a committee will be constituted for apportioning the assets and liabilities of various public undertakings among the two states based on population consideration or by mutual agreement.
“The Chief Minister today asked the home minister to clarify both 9 and 10 schedules, and he has promised to consider the proposal,” said TRS Lok Sabha leader A. P. Jitender Reddy.
